Raine helps her readers understand the severe and often lifelong psychological consequences of being victimized, the ambivalent reactions of other people to rape survivors, and the personal anguish in recovering from being raped. Raine elucidates her feelings of helplessness and terror during the rape, her treatment by the legal and medical system, other people's reactions to her rape, and her social and emotional isolation after the rape. She leads us through her coming to terms with the rape, with the new person she feels she becomes, with other people's reactions, and with her post-traumatic stress disorder symptoms. Through Raine's words, we watch a severely traumatized woman learn to regain control of her life and learn to trust and love again.
Raine's book raises many important questions: Why the shame of being a victim of rape? Why is the victim blamed? Why do some people still think that rape is "assault with a friendly weapon?" Why people's ambivalent reactions to rape? Why the silence?
Raine decided to end the silence about rape by bravely sharing her story with the world. Why should she be ashamed? She is the victim; she did nothing wrong. She purposely and insistently breaks the taboos about rape to try to pave the path for rape victims to speak out about this abominable and prevalent crime.
There were an estimated 9 million women raped in the United States alone between 1972 and 1991. In the United States, a woman is raped every two minutes; eighty-three percent of women with disabilities will be sexually assaulted in their lifetime; only twenty-six percent of rapes are reported to the police. Over fifty percent of rape survivors suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder, which can include the reexperiencing of the attack through nightmares, intrusive thoughts, and flashbacks; the avoidance of thoughts, feelings, places, and activities associated with the rape; difficulty concentrating; mood swings; and a diminished interest in former activities. These are just a few of the many terrifying and eye-opening statistics about the prevalence and seriousness of rape (in this country alone!)
Books like After Silence are necessary to combat the public's denial and apathy about the pervasiveness and seriousness of sexual crimes on women. After Silence can also help rape survivors understand that they are not alone and that their reactions to being raped are "normal." The general public should read the book so they can better understand the experience of being raped and life after rape. Hopefully the public and the legal system will learn to more supportive to rape survivors and more committed to ending (sexual) violence against women.

The book contains deeper explanations and more mantras, but the C.D. provides enunciation models of essential mantras regarding such things as removing obstacles; receiving abundance; finding a mate; increasing good luck; healing the body; accelerating spiritual growth; and, even, giving birth to a spiritually advanced child.
Because correct enunciation is important to see results in this practice, I recommend that practitioners start with this audio version and branch out later to the book and other sources, if so desired.

This book is enlightening, just reading one paragraph causes a powerful lift in my conciousness every time I read it. They language is a bit antiquated but the meaning is very clear and concise. The ideas are complex, but they are broken down and expressed in the simplest way possible. There are no unneccessary details; it gets straight to the point.
But don't take my word for it. You can get "A Rosicrusian Speaks" for FREE on the internet. Just do a Google search for Joseph J. Weed, click on "A Rosicrucian Speaks", then copy the papers to your hard drive as a text file.
It is a collection of lectures given by Joseph J. Weed to Rosicrucian lodges in the 40's-60's. The wording is a bit unnusual but the ideas are the greatest treasures I have ever gotten for free, on the internet. If you read these lectures, you will want more, and want to get "Wisdom of the Mystic Masters".

(More customer reviews)I have bought many different energy based books, and used different energy based therapies and exercises with great results.
This book caught my attention because very positive statements were made about it comparing it favorably with reiki and qigong etc.
It is well written, concise and very easy to follow. The exercises are easy to do. If you were to do the visualization, and various simple breathing patterns, you could start moving energy within minutes, and as you practice more and more then your skills will improve dramatically.
With the QT exercises I can feel strong sensations throughout my body particularly in my hands and feet, and I am not an expert in this field.
QT enables you to generate healing energy through your hands to work on yourself and others.
There is a scientific principle called entrainment. If two items are vibrating side by side at different speeds then the item that vibrates at the lower speed will adjust to vibrate at the same frequency as the other object.
Examples of this are swings in a playground that are swinging out of sync and adjust. Also, in a clock store you may notice the pendulum clocks of the same size swinging back and forth in unison.
This principle applied to QT is that when you apply the higher healing vibration to an area of pain or disease (low vibration) it causes that area to reattune itself to the higher vibration, and thereby cure it.This method I find easier than Qigong for example. I am delighted with the results I am getting. This is the best book of this type I have read so far.
I also highly recommend EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique) which is a simple acupressure technique which can be done in less than two minutes. Can you imagine easily letting go of emotional issues such as anger, anxiety, fear, forgiveness, sadness, stress, phobias, procrastination, trauma etc. You can research this further and download a free manual at [...], and buy various EFT books at Amazon. (More customer reviews)When Liam Neeson's movie "Taken" came out in 2008 many people were shocked. The film portrayed how easily it was for unassuming girls to get pulled into the slave trade. As the setting was Paris, I had several friends question my sanity in sending my teenage daughter on a student ambassador program which included a week in France. The movie and my daughter's trip both had a good ending, but for many girls the horrors of the slave trade are an awful reality.
In her book, "The Slave Across the Street," Theresa Flores brings the human trafficking story home to the United States, to a wealthy suburb of Detroit, sharing what really happened in her own life. Not the victim we tend to imagine in these crimes--white, upper class, stable family--Theresa was taken advantage of, repeatedly, and was in a cycle of abuse that was so cruel she was lucky to have escaped with her life.
Flores now shares about these teen years as part of her own healing, uncovering what had lain secret for years, but needed to be brought into the light of truth not only for her but also for current victims and potential ones.
Although the subject matter of the book is by its nature adult material Flores descriptions of her life are not graphic in detail. I have read similar themed books that emphasize the horror of the lifestyle with only a chapter of redemption at the end. They make for a titillating read, but are hardly helpful in the fight against human trafficking. This book is bare of the glamorization of such tragedies and only provides enough story to understand the enslavement issue.
The book also includes several chapters regarding the facts about human trafficking, how to seek help for victims, indentify red flags on the slave trade, and provides important pointers for parents and professionals. Anything this book may lack in its presentation and prose is made up in its substance..

(More customer reviews)These books are my all-time favorites. Over the past 15 years I have purchased several sets of these books and tapes and shared these ideas with countless people. Some found them interesting, some inspiring, some didn't want to part with them, and some became obsessed with the ideas presented in these books as much as I have. What can I say, these books did change my life.
I understand that for a lot of people the ideas presented in these books seem totally outrageous and that some people try to discredit them looking for information that will prove that the adventures presented in these books are all fabricated. To a lot of people it is very disconcerting when their ideas become challenged and they'll fight to prove that their limiting beliefs are the sound ones even if those beliefs are actually crippling their lives and taking the joy out of it. Whatever we choose to believe, we'll always look for ways to validate our beliefs and we'll always find what we are looking for (proof).
Even though we may or may not be able to prove whether the stories in these books are factual, we call all apply the principles presented. The main idea of these books is that man is limited or unlimited according to the thoughts and beliefs he chooses. And even if your main goal in life is not to master the ability to walk on water, walk through fire, teleport, or spiritualize your body, you can still use the principles in this book to get as far as your imagination and faith will allow you. Then, if you ever get bored with the mundane life, if you ever begin to wonder if there's anything more to life, you can get ideas here that will keep you busy on developing yourself, growing, expanding and actualizing your potential as long as you so desire. And then, if you are really interested, you can find many other books that explore the same principles presented here to feed your mind, your imagination, and your passion for life.
If you choose to apply the principles presented in this book, instead of just reading the books once for entertainment, you will soon begin to experience events in your life that will serve as a proof that these principles are valid and applicable in your life wherever you are right now and your belief will grow stronger and who knows, maybe one day you decide to imagine for yourself what was previously unthinkable. Maybe one day you give yourself a chance to surprise yourself allowing the power that is locked within you to come out and express itself in all its glory. Then you'll feel grateful that you found these books - even if they seemed far-out when you first picked them up.

This book packs in an amazing amount of information in under 300 pages (some of these are lists of feelings and physical symptoms.) It is written very simply - no rocket science here. It addresses the origin of emotions and approaches emotions on the scientific, medical, and spiritual levels. This book appealed to both my wanting to know how my feelings came about and how to properly label them and my need for a simple tool or meditation to release the negative unresolved feelings which have keep me in my destructive patterns.
I wish I had read this book when I was a teenager after an abusive upbringing, or while I was in college unmotivated to reach my full potential, or before I made the decision to marry the wrong person. I am glad that I found it in time to work through some of the issues of my divorce and to continue on my quest for personal growth.
As the book explains the root to finding all of those answers is here - and shows you how to look inside yourself in a loving and compassionate way. It reiterates something we all know and easily forget - you are the truth you seek!

(More customer reviews)When my husband told me we would be receiving this book to review I was very excited and this book did not let me down. It had me from the very first page. In fact, I started it in the evening, read until 1:30 in the morning, got up at 6:30am to read some more and finished it by about 10am. It was that good.
Let me give you a little bit of info about the book and then I will tell you why you should definitely read it, too. This is the true story of Rebecca Nichols Alonzo and her family. She was born into a little community called Sellerstown. The book shares about about her parents' love story and travels as traveling preachers before she was born, but the main story mostly takes place at the Free Welcome Holiness Church in Sellerstown, North Carolina where her father took over as the pastor in 1969. A man that attended the church decided to make it his mission to terrorize the family until they left the church, as he had lost a lot of control over the congregation when Rebecca's dad came to town. He tried to accomplish this through numerous bombings of their house and church, threatening phone calls and mail, sniper fire and even trying to pay someone off to run the pastor down with a car. Throughout the entire story Rebecca's parents stand steadfast and instead of teaching their children to be fearful and hateful, they repeatedly encourage them to trust in the Lord and forgive their enemies.
I knew that I would like this book from the very beginning, but this book turned out to be so much more than I had even hoped it would be. This book truly addresses the issues that hold us back from forgiving, and the true toll that anger, bitterness, and lack of forgiveness can have on our own lives and walk with the Lord. This book made me step back and take a look at the condition of my relationships present and past. I realized that I am not as good at speaking "the language of heaven" as I thought I was. That is something that God is now working on in my heart because of Rebecca's courage to tell her story and share the wonderful lessons of forgiveness that her parents taught her and her brother. I am so thankful for this book. I plan on reading it again and again so that these lessons are never far from my mind. I am grateful that Rebecca had the courage to share her story and I hope that you will pick this book up and be blessed by it as well.
