Writing in the Open: Using Wikis to Create Documentation is part of a series of booklets produced by the Sun Technical Publications group. Others include Writing Tips for Nonnative English Speakers, Developing a Corporate Style Guide, and Constructing Lists and Procedures. Modestly produced and priced, these best practices guidelines offer excellent information, developed over the years by the Sun Technical Publications group. Let's hope that they become available again.
Meanwhile, the third edition (2010) of READ ME FIRST! A STYLE GUIDE FOR THE COMPUTER INDUSTRY (ISBN 978-0-13-705826-6) is an excellent reference. Chapter 7 includes information about writing tasks, procedures, and steps; chapter 16 discusses the use of wikis for documentation.
