Split Infinity (Apprentice Adept) Review

Split Infinity (Apprentice Adept)
Average Reviews:

I was not much of a book reader. I found a copy of Split Infinity at the bus I was on and started reading it. I was wondering why the book cover had a picture of a unicorn and the first few chapters clearly depicted a science fiction (future world) scenario. By the end of the book, I had to get my hands on Blue Adept and Juxtaposition. I have not found a book even remotely similar to the Apprentice Adept series since. The combination and relevance of both sci-fi world and fantasy world had been excellently written and the style of magic that Piers Anthony penned in this book was clearly unique. I will definitely let my kids read this book once they are able. I have been a Fantasy genre reader ever since I found this book.

Demon's Kiss (Wings in the Night, Book 1) Review

Demon's Kiss (Wings in the Night, Book 1)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
While Demon's Kiss has paranormal romance overtones it is very much a relationship driven ensemble piece that develops a very interesting group of characters and relationships.
Seth has been waiting all his life for something and has had visions of a woman, a woman who is somehow wrapped up in his destiny. When Sean is mugged, beaten and left for dead Sean readily accepts vampire Reaper's offer of immortality and even on the brink of death Sean realizes that at last he is on the road to fulfilling his purpose. Reaper former CIA assassin during life and now vampire rogue hunter has compelling reasons for shunning any relationship, but since Seth is the one Chosen with whom Reaper has an undeniable bond, Reaper cannot ignore his compulsion to protect Seth. In Shayne's vampire world this bond is not necessarily a romantic bond and Reaper's bond with Sean allows Sean to begin to crack the isolation that loner Reaper has maintained in life and death.
Sean is also the catalyst for cementing the ragtag group that begins to form around Reaper, much to Reaper's frustration. Initially the group is Sean, Reaper, Roxy and Topaz. Roxy, the only non-vampire, is a seer and powerful in her own right. Roxy is the voice of reason for the group and was previously Reaper's only friend and privy to his dark secret. Topaz is a socialite pampered princess on the surface but tough and smart underneath. Topaz hooks up with the group to seek vengeance on the vampire that stole her heart and her money. The remaining important characters are associated with the rogue group that Reaper hunts:Vixen - held captive by the group - is Sean's mystery woman. Vixen is both vampire and fox-shifter but alien in her thinking, almost more fox than woman even when in human form. Briar - beautiful, dark and cruel, is no longer able to feel her own pain and revels in inflicting it on others. And Jack - perpetual con-man, is the vampire who broke Topaz's heart. Jack is always running a scam, loyal only to himself, he never lets any one close to his heart.
It is very difficult to write a decent synopsis for Demon's Kiss because all seven main characters have distinct personalities and roles to play in the action. Shayne intertwines her characters and sets up their relationships, so that while you can see six of them starting to pair off, there are other friendships and other bonds developing between the group that are just as important. Shayne does a good job weaving her story with threads following various members of the ensemble, coming together, splitting off and reforming.
Demon's Kiss is not one of those series romances that focuses solely on a single couple as they take their romantic turn in the spotlight. While Sean & Vixen's is the only romance that runs full course here, there is a strong foundation laid for the past and future relationship between Topaz and Jack. Reaper is also such a strong character that there is no way to keep Reaper staying meekly in the background. The beginning of the complex relationship between Reaper and the evil Briar, whose soul is just as dark and damaged as Reaper's own, steals the spotlight at times. I look forward to seeing where both of those relationships go in the follow on books: Lover's Bite (May 2008 Jack & Topaz) and Angel's Pain (Oct 2008 Reaper & Briar).
Demon's Kiss is set in the same world as Shayne's popular Wings in the Night/Twilight Series (Rhiannon makes a brief appearance here) so check these out if you are looking for something to tide you over until May. Some of the older stories are being released as ebooks, Shayne's website has summaries and a `family tree' that shows the connections between books, she also has a movie trailer for Demon's Kiss by the same production company that does Christine Feehan's, the short one is fun and the longer one a bit hokey.

Even by vampire standards, Reaper is a loner, and his current mission to destroy a gang of rogue bloodsuckers is definitely a one-vamp job. Then fate takes a hand, and before he knows it, he's surrounded by a ragtag crew of misfit helpers: the newbie, the princess, the shape-shifter and the human healer. Seth is new to immortality, but he's sharp and strong-and he'll risk anything for the rogues' strange female captive, a secretive creature he doesn't understand but feels compelled to save.Vixen is confused by the emotions that swirl through her at the sight of her impulsive hero. She only hopes the brutal Gregor and his bloodthirsty renegades will leave her alive long enough to explore them.Or will Reaper himself be the one to destroy them all?

People know him as Tony Giodone. No one knows his real name. He is a hitman, hired assassin, and a werewolf. Tony is still getting used to what he has become. One year ago he had been stalking his mark, but his mark ended up ripping Tony's throat out. With no one to teach him how to deal with his new abilities, Tony taught himself. He has learned which scents mean he is being lied to and which mean someone fears him. But most scents he has yet to figure out. He is slowly learning how to use his changes to his business advantage, except during the full moon when he locks himself away.
Sue Quentin won the lottery last year. She should be happy, thrilled. Instead, she wants to hire Tony to kill her. The moment she meets Tony she is disturbingly attracted to him. He returns that attraction. Even when she accidently learns he is a werewolf, she feels the pull of him.
Their relationship is still on shaky ground when Tony's enemies decide to harm Tony by going after Sue. Tony and Sue find themselves in a world of high stakes card games, kidnapping, larceny ... and shapeshifters of all kinds.
**** This super natural romance is told from Tony's point-of-view. The back ground of the shapeshifters does not go into deep detail. Readers learn only what Tony does as the story progresses. Yet is gave me enough information to actually thirst for another glimpse into the darker world. Do not think that you will easily put this book down whenever the telephone rings. Very well done! ****

You know when you start to read a book and you get so into it that you forget about eating and sleeping and even your children? This is one of those books. I literally could not put this book down and finished it in 2 days. (It would have been hours, not days but the children did eventually convince me that they needed food.) I cannot wait to read Nina's story. Come on July 2008!!

Deadtown (A Deadtown Novel) Review

Deadtown (A Deadtown Novel)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
First the pros:
- I really enjoyed our heroine, Vicky. She was powerful, funny, smart and kicked all kinds of tail. Not quite as awesome as my current favorite, Kate Daniels, but I would say that she's not too far off.
- The plot was interesting, moved quickly and concluded well. The menace was believable, the dramatic elements were clever and I just liked it. I thought the premise was an interesting twist on the old favorite. And that is getting much harder to do lately.
- World-building. We didn't get to see as much of the world as I would have liked, since the focus was mainly on the action, but what we saw was interesting and original.
All this counts for a lot, but with the urban fantasy market as crowded as it is, it takes that extra something for a book to go from good to great in my view. And the one, massive con was something I couldn't move past: the cast.
I did not like any of the supporting cast. They were, almost without exception, untrustworthy, evil or plain old jerks and they made the book a lot less believable. The one I took the most exception to, and will use as the example to illustrate my point, is Tina.
Tina the zombie sidekick is actually a potentially interesting and original new character. Unfortunately Tina completely lacked charm. Every time she appeared on the page I wanted someone, anyone, to slap the heck out of her. Not for being a smartass, but for consistently pulling crap that could get our heroine killed. She's a danger to pretty much everyone around her, literally from the first chapter. The heroine can probably empathize, since she was something like that as a teenager, but Vicky's actions as a teenager actually DID cause a tragedy. Every time Tina appeared and did something stupid that could get the heroine killed I wondered why the heroine would ever agree to train her, knowing that the attitude could get someone killed. It didn't make any sense. I cant imagine her associating with, much less training, someone who doesn't listen, will STEAL from her, and is a danger to her AND her clients. She has experienced the consequences of such a lack of control and unwillingness to listen in her past and out to know better. It ripped me right out of the story, as I spent the time thinking WTF!
Tina was the character that aggravated me the most, but far from the only one. The client and politicians were a cliche, the lawyer boyfriend plain unlikable, and the human love interest was boring. If we must have a romance (and I know it's pretty much a given in this genre- I don't mind it when it's done well), I hope the author will introduce a viable third candidate in the next book. The closest I came to really liking any character other than the lead was in flashbacks to Vicky's dead relatives.
I will certainly check out the reviews of the second book in this series when it is published. I hope that further development will make the cast a bit more interesting and fun to read about. There are just too many good urban fantasy books out there right now to buy one that doesn't get me interested from the beginning. If the cast issues are addressed, I will absolutely buy the next book.

Love in the Time of Dragons: A Novel of the Light Dragons Review

Love in the Time of Dragons: A Novel of the Light Dragons
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Ahhhh...Baltic, Baltic, Baltic. For so long, us readers viewed you as one of the bad guys...especially when you helped wipe out many of your own kind. Were we right...thinking Baltic is a big ol' bad guy? Or were we wrong...judging him using circumstantial evidence? "Love in the Time of Dragons" by Katie MacAlister addresses this (as well as other exciting plots) by giving the readers an interesting new(ish) dragon couple - Baltic and Tully Sullivan (aka - Ysolde). Now, I'm not going to bore you by rehashing the plot (which you can read about in the book description as well as the other reviews) but I am going to let you in on why you should read this book.
First off, MacAlister has got to be, hands down (or scaly taloned paws down) one of the funniest writers currently. If you've never read her work, I highly suggest that you do...and you can start with reading the Aisling Grey series first (which will give you much needed background info which leads up to this book). I find that she's one of three writers whose humor actually makes me snort...a very unladylike sound, but I'll just claim it's involuntary, kinda like hiccups.
Second, read read READ her dragon books to learn about "Jim". "Who is Jim?" you ask...well, Jim's a demon. A big, shaggy, slobbery Newfoundland of a demon. One who is having an illicit love affair with a Cavalier King Charles spaniel named "Celeste". Jim, more often than not, is a fount of information...usually useless information, but funny as Abbadon none the less. If Jim were a man, let's just say he'd have a penchant for Members Only jackets, Miller High Life, and cartoon porn. Don't let his demon heritage scare you...under all that fur lurks a heart of gold.
Third, the MEN. Ohhhh...the men. All of these dragons sound soooo yummy. Personally, I can't wait for Bastien's story. I've no idea why, but I just think he's such a compelling dragon. *sigh* Maybe, if I pray to the Gods of Creative Inspiration, Ms. MacAlister will write his story next...complete with a leading wyvern's mate named "Andrea". But I digress...
Finally...read Katie MacAlister's work. I own EVERY book she's written & I can say that I pick them up again, once a year, just because they're good enough to read and re-read again.
Cheers!

Lily Parker attends St. Sophia's School for Girls in Chicago after her parents recently dumped her there while they conduct research in Europe. At the school, Lily discovered her paranormal ability to use the Firespell. Although she has improved at controlling this power, she knows she has a long way to go before she is comfortable using it if ever. Her biggest fear is becoming a Reaper who abuses their magical gifts. Lily's roommate and BFF Scout, who fights the otherworldly beasts, helps her stay anchored while her relationship with Jason is becoming more intimate.
As Lily trains to be an Adept, she fears the immortal words of Lord Acton ("Power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely.") and Darth Vader ("Give yourself to the Dark Side"), so she wants to go slow. However, when she observes strange creatures wandering around St. Sophia's, Lily realizes slow is no longer an option for her. With Scout at her side, she vows to learn who they are and what they want. Although she admits to herself she has made the same pledge re the enigmatic behavior of her parents and adversary Sebastian.
The second Dark Elite (see Firespell) young adult fantasy continues Lily's training in the paranormal as she learns more secrets, especially about her parents and her abilities, but is also is caught up in some sort of otherworldly "turf" war. Fast-paced and mindful of the Casts' House of Night saga and Claudia Gray's Evernight series, readers will enjoy Lily's dilemma. She would prefer to ignore the impossible and hang with the hot hunks rather than joining Scout and friends in mortal combat, but feels Hexbound to learn her craft expeditiously to keep her school, Chicago and the world safe from the others.

Quinn is a werewolf that has traveled from his home in Ireland to the United States to meet with the Council, the governing body of the Others. The Others are non-human races; vampires, werewolves, witches etc. Before the important meeting takes place, the tantalizing scent of honeysuckle has Quinn distracted and searching for its source. He can't fight his desire for the sweet scent and he abruptly leaves to find it.
Cassidy, a werefox, is taking a break from the meeting when she hears growling. She turns to find Quinn hiding in the shadows staring at her. Cassidy runs and Quinn chases, each shifting in to their Other forms. She manages to get away but she ends up coming face to face with Quinn again soon after, when she is brought unwillingly to the Council's emergency meeting.
The mistress of a very powerful vampire has been kidnapped and the group thought to have taken her, The Light of Truth, could expose the Others to the humans now. The Council decides that, because Cassidy is an anthropologist, her extensive knowledge of human culture will be useful in finding more information about The Light Of Truth. She will be working closely along side Quinn as well. Right away Quinn and Cassidy's relationship becomes intimate.

It's a race against time for Cassidy and Quinn to find the ones responsible for the kidnapping and to stop their evil plans before the Others are exposed and Cassidy's loved ones are harmed as well.
Wolf At The Door is jam-packed with mystery, thrills and it's full of fascinating characters. Quinn is incredibly sexy and Cassidy is strong and intelligent. Their passion is scorching! This story draws you in with a familiar time and setting and then it's blended with an edge of the supernatural. Eternal Hunger by Cynthia Eden
Paranormal Romance- Dec. 29th, 2009
4 1/2 stars
In Eternal Hunger Cynthia Eden returns to her super sexy shifters! I love her shifter romances and this book did not disappoint. It grabbed me from the first page and did not stop! Cynthia Eden's paranormal world is complex and absorbing. If you are already a fan of her books you will have to purchase this book to add to your collection. If you are a new reader, be prepared for a fun, smooth read.
This story starts with Jude Donovan, a tough no-nonsense bounty hunter who ALWAYS gets his prey. But his latest capture brings with it trouble packaged in the new, ultra attractive Assistant D.A., Erin Jerome. All of a sudden he is bent on hunting an all together different type of quarry. Jude immediately senses something different about Erin and his inner animal wants her for his alone.
But Erin is no easy prey. She has sworn off shifters of any sort in her life. Erin is deceptively strong and no one even a shifter is going to push her around. Even if he does have a rough sort of charm that she finds attractive. Starting afresh in a new town, the last thing she wants are any complications. Which means keeping a low profile. And she knows a shifter will just bring her trouble. Unfortunately, her past and Jude's collide as Erin is targeted and Jude becomes her bodyguard. But Erin's ultimate test is taking the final risk and believing in herself.
This book was sheer pleasure from start to finish. Cynthia Eden is one of my favorite authors. I am hooked by her series because each of her books reveals something new about her world and her characters are always sympathetic and likeable. It is difficult to describe how enjoyment I feel every time I read one her books. Her ability to write a fast paced novel that is: fun to read, easy to get involved in and always satisfying. The mystery behind the Erin's past and a string of murders are engrossing, as unexpected changes make for a thrilling and riveting read. The engaging characters are genuine and extraordinary and I often felt a part of the story. Along with Jude there is a cast of his bounty hunter colleagues who I hope will be making appearances of their own.
I loved this story and look forward to her next book with great anticipation! Reviewed by Steph from the Bookaholics Romance Book Club

Demonglass (A Hex Hall Novel) Review

Demonglass (A Hex Hall Novel)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I love it when sequels are as strong as--or better than--their predecessors. It doesn't always happen. I can think of more series that failed to live up to their hype than I can ones that surpassed what was expected of them. Demonglass, the second entry in Rachel Hawkins' Hex Hall series, is a book worthy of standing next to its sibling on the bookshelf. If you thought Hex Hall was fun and quirky, you'll be pleased to know that the second novel in the series is as well. In fact, Hawkins packed the kitchen sink this time around. Demonglass is even spunkier than Hex Hall. This is a series that I never expected to love. I don't read many paranormal novels and I didn't expect much going into the first book. If you recall from my review last month, however, I fell in love with the world Rachel Hawkins created for us. Her characters are witty and fresh. Paranormal stereotypes don't exist; rather, they're turned on their heads.
One of the most interesting things about Demonglass is how fresh it was. Starting the novel, it didn't feel like a rehash of the same old story being drawn out for no necessary reason. There's purpose in everything that goes on. While there's a little angst (because, really, can you think of a single book that doesn't stir things up a bit?), it's not the usual dreck so frequently found in YA literature. Main character Sophie doesn't sit around feeling sorry for herself and whining about her lot in life. No, she's so kick-ass, she's going to do something about it. Without spoiling things for anyone who hasn't read Hex Hall (in which case, what are you sitting around here for? Shoo! Go read!), huge revelations are revealed toward the end of the first book. These things are dealt with here. Sophie is very focused on doing the right thing, even if it goes against her own safety.
Demonglass begins shortly after Hex Hall left off, so little time has passed. I didn't feel like I was being thrust into a new situation. Show, don't tell. Hawkins took this advice to heart and it shows. In fact, she goes a step further and moves the entire novel to another country. We explored the school in the first book; now we travel to London, where things (again) aren't quite as they appear to be. A new setting poses new problems and scenarios. There are quite a few familiar faces, but also new characters to love (or fear!). Demonglass has an even tighter storyline, one that completely sucked me up and involved me. I'm usually good at picking up on the path an author is headed down and able to arrive at the right spot ahead of time. The Hex Hall series likes to keep the surprises coming, though. There are so many things I never anticipated in both books, but especiallly here. Sometimes, I feel like I'm in Wonderland, where everything is the opposite of what it seems. Hawkins is brilliant when it comes to weaving together a captivating novel. My only con? The cliffhanger is downright wicked. I don't want to wait to read the next book! Hawkins is such a tease; she knows just where to leave us hanging...

Judd Lauren is a Psy, he is also an Arrow, one of the elite fighting forces of the Psy Council. He and his family now reside with the Snowdancer, Changling Clan. His family was ordered to be reeducated which means their minds would be destroyed. They escaped to the Wolf-Changling Clan thinking they would be killed but the children would live. However, the Snowdancers have accepted the whole family into their protection. The children are assimilating and learning to face and use their emotions. But Judd is still Psy and his mind is locked into the protocol of Silence. Any amount of emotion causes the pain of dissonance and can ultimately cause his death.
Brenna Kincaid was tortured and her mind destroyed by a Psy. He abducted her and over a week tore through her mind and cut and hurt her body. When she was rescued she was in a coma, and Sasha a renegade E-Psy who is the mate of Lucas, leader of the Leopard Clan was the only one who could reach her. She is steadily drawn to Judd. She finds it hard to understand why since he is Psy, but he calls to her in every way. She is determined to reach his emotions and she knows, somehow, that he is not indifferent to her.
Judd constantly pushes her away, but when he realizes someone is out to hurt her again all his walls start to crumble. Judd is a dangerous Psy not just to Brenna but to everyone. He is able to kill with a thought, only with the protocol of Silence is he able to control his emotions. Judd is able to use his abilities for the Clan and to protect those things important to him. Brenna is one of those things and someone is out to hurt her. The one thing Judd will not allow.
The action is fast the plot involved, and the animosity between the Psy and Changling communities growing. I have loved each of the novels in this series. The world and our knowledge grow with each book. Along with the JR Ward series of the Black Dagger Brotherhood, these are my two favorite series at this time. I encourage you to start with A SLAVE TO SENSATION, then read VISIONS OF HEAT and finally this book. But you can read them in any order. Well worth the time and money.

Dragon Actually (Dragon Kin, Book 1) Review

Dragon Actually (Dragon Kin, Book 1)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I loved the main story Dragon Actually (which started out as a short story originally epublished as To Challenge a Dragon). This dragonshifter tale had all of the trademark brashness, humor and steamy intensity you would expect from Aiken a Shelley Laurenston alto ego.
If you're a fan of any of the author's other books you'll be pleased to see how well Aiken's trademark uber-alpha female lead translates to the medieval time frame of the book. Annwyl the Bloody is fatally wounded and outnumbered but still fighting to take as many of her vile brother's warriors along with her through death's door. Just about the time the Annwyl is about to lose her head, literally, her foes' smug satisfaction at their looming victory turns to terror and flaming death courtesy of the horned black dragon on whose doorstep Annwyl is dying. Much to the dragon Fearghus' the surprise, the bloody woman meets his fierce dragon's gaze without fear and her bravery intrigues him enough than instead of making her a tasty snack, he brings her into his lair and sees to her healing. As time goes by the dour dragon hermit, who preferred a quiet solitary life, is amused and captivated by the bold, fearless woman. When Annwyl begins to heal, Fearghus provides an irritating but powerful Knight to help Annwyl hone the battle skills which will allow her to defeat her odious abusive sibling. Annwyl spends her days in bruising training with her helpful but annoying `adversary' and her nights talking with Fearghus, torn between the powerful lust she feels for the Knight and the comfort and friendship she feels for the dragon.
Annwyl's `two' relationships are what really make this story. Her relationship with the despised but oh so attractive Knight was combustible, laden with sexual tension and with verbal sparring (along with some physical sparring too), but where her relationship with the Knight burned hot and fast, with Fearghus it was a slowly building deeper connection, as the two let down their guards and shared themselves in a way that neither had allowed before. Adding even more fun to the story, Dragon Actually is chockfull of supporting dragon characters, many of Fearghus' fabulous siblings turn up to help or to stir up mischief, most all of them deserve stories of their own.
The second story Flames in Chains, also previously epublished, was the story of Fearghus' parents `courtship'. Fearghus' father Bercelek, a fearsome battle dragon, has always had a soft spot for the dragon Princess Rhiannon who loathes him. Fearghus was great, in his unrelenting campaign to win the mate who is now within his grasp and the advantage is finally his since she's stuck in human form and can't shift to dragon in order to flee him. This story had some great moments and Bercelek's odd ball dragon parents and siblings, like his children in the previous story, were a kick. But I didn't like Flames and Chains as well as the first story. If you are an erotic reader my nits with the story won't bother you, but an increase in the frequency and coarsenss of the language used, along with the chains and spanking, though both of these were very mild by erotica standards, knocked this one down a notch for me where Dragon Actually managed to toe, but not cross, the line for me.
Overall though I still will be checking out Aiken's next book About A Dragon (Dragon Kin, Book 2) (turns out this is a reissue of Laurenston's The Distressing Damsel: Book 2 of the Dragon Kin) in which the first - of hopefully many - of Fearghus' siblings get their turn in the spot light. If you like Dragon Actually be sure to check out Aiken's pride and pack stories written as Shelley Laurenston, they are also full of pushy alpha shifter males (lion/wolf) claiming their oh so dangerous mates and though not as violent, the stories share the same fast paced humorous tone as these two stories.
Here are a couple of her more recent books to check out:
The Mane Event (Pride, Book 1)
The Beast in Him (Pride, Book 2)
Laurenston's Dragon Kin
Dragon Actually ("To Challenge A Dragon" Ferghus & Annywl, plus "Flames and Chains" Ferghus' parents Rhiannon and Bercelek)
About A Dragon (Dragon Kin, Book 2) (Ferghus' brother Briec this is a reissue of The Distressing Damsel: Book 2 of the Dragon Kin)
Everlasting Bad Boys (Bercelek's parents Aidean and Shalin)

It's not always easy being a female warrior with a nickname like Annwyl the Bloody. Men tend to either cower in fear - a lot - or else salute. It's true that Annwyl has a knack for decapitating legions of her ruthless brother's soldiers without pausing for breath. But just once it would be nice to be able to really talk to a man, the way, she can talk to Fearghus the Destroyer.Too bad that Fearghus is a dragon, of the large, scaly and deadly type. With him, Annwyl feels safe - a far cry from the feelings aroused by the hard-bodied, arrogant knight Fearghus has arranged to help train her for battle. With her days spent fighting a man who fill her with fierce, heady desire, and her nights spent in the company of a magical creature who could smite a village just by exhaling, Annwyl is sure life couldn't get any stranger. She's wrong...

How to Flirt with a Naked Werewolf Review

How to Flirt with a Naked Werewolf
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Mo Wenstein has moved from the south to Grundy, Alaska to get a fresh start. Most welcome her into their small town, especially the towns bachelor's. All except the constantly grumpy yet very delectable Cooper Graham who doesn't believe Mo has what it takes to live in Alaska. Things between them change when Mo finds Cooper on her porch with a bear trap on his ankle. As odd as that is, it's nothing compared to when Cooper changes into a wolf before Mo's eyes.
Cooper is Alpha of his pack but after a bloody encounter with another pack, he exiles himself to Grundy. Both him and his wolf are drawn to Mo but he uses his bad attitude to try and push her away. There have been wolf attacks around Grundy and Cooper starts to believe he is the one responsible. Though she has her doubts at times, Mo knows that Cooper isn't the one behind the attacks and is set on finding the one responsible. Not exactly what she planned on when she moved to Alaska but who said love wasn't complicated?
How to Flirt with a Naked Werewolf isn't a fast paced, action packed read but is more character based with it's share of family drama and werewolf politics. Mo and Cooper both have come to Grundy to get away from their families and have a fresh start. Mo's parents are forever hippies. Everything she's done since she was a teenager was some sort of a rebellion against them. She has moved to Grundy to end that and live her life for her own reasons. Cooper didn't want to be alpha and after an encounter with another pack turned deadly, he came to Grundy to get away from it all. Mo doesn't take Cooper's attitude and Cooper challenges Mo each day. Their relationship isn't all rainbows and kisses but they still work really great together. Mo has the type of personality that very few can help but love and even when Cooper is at his most grumpy, you can't help but fall for him. It probably helps that he's easy on the eyes. I did think Mo took to what Cooper was a bit too easily, even with her parents being as opened minded as they are.
When Cooper's grandfather falls ill, he reluctantly goes home for a visit and we learn more about his pack and some of why he left to begin with. Almost no one was happy with Cooper's departure so there is family conflict where this part of the story is concerned. Back in Grundy people are being attacked around town by a wolf and since Cooper can't remember much when he is in his wolf form, he assumes it's himself. Mo understandably has her doubts but in the end knows it's not Cooper and does what she can to convince him to believe that also. I was a little thrown off by the end and liked that I wasn't able to predict everything.
Grundy has it's share of quirky characters that add funny moments to the story. How to Flirt with a Naked Werewolf has the right amount of comedy, drama, paranormal and romance without any of it being too over the top. It's the first book Molly Harper's new paranormal romance werewolf series and I look forward to reading the next installment.

Northern Exposure Even in Grundy, Alaska, it's unusual to find a naked guy with a bear trap clamped to his ankle on your porch. But when said guy turns into a wolf, recent southern transplant Mo Wenstein has no difficulty identifying the problem. Her surly neighbor Cooper Graham—who has been openly critical of Mo's ability to adapt to life in Alaska—has trouble of his own. Werewolf trouble. For Cooper, an Alpha in self-imposed exile from his dysfunctional pack, it's love at first sniff when it comes to Mo. But Cooper has an even more pressing concern on his mind. Several people around Grundy have been the victims of wolf attacks, and since Cooper has no memory of what he gets up to while in werewolf form, he's worried that he might be the violent canine in question. If a wolf cries wolf, it makes sense to listen, yet Mo is convinced that Cooper is not the culprit. Except if he's not responsible, then who is? And when a werewolf falls head over haunches in love with you, what are you supposed to do anyway? The rules of dating just got a whole lot more complicated. . . .
